Mongolia baby!

Alright! So I said I would update this blog back in June 2009 but you know... life is busy etc etc and I haven't been able to keep on top of things but what better way to finally start putting things up on this blog than to talk about my 6 weeks medical selective in Mongolia?!

For those of you unfamiliar with the term "selective", it's a period of 6 weeks (with 2 weeks holiday included) when medical students from University of Auckland can travel to any part of the world and train in any field of medicine of their choice. Hmm so what's the difference between Selective and Elective? Well Elective is usually done in the last year of your study in most western countries and is for a longer duration while selective at Auckland takes place in the second to last y
ear before graduation. We do have an elective study period too in the last year but due to the selective it is a bit shorter than in most other universities.

So anyways for my selective I chose to do Neurology in Mongolia. Why Mongolia you may ask? Why not? What better way to see this beautiful country than to live and work here for 6 weeks... It's been one week already and I am sooo glad I chose to come here cos I am seriously lovin it! The posts that will now follow will be a mix between all things medical and otherwise related to my trip in Mongolia... Happy reading or as they say in this part of the world... "Bayartai unshih" :)
